Dear Colleagues,

It is my honour and pleasure to announce the Third EDS Surgical Skills Course (SSC) “Minimally invasive management of critically ill GI patients”- a continuation of the initiative of European Digestive Surgery, taking place in Kaunas, Lithuania on September 21-22, 2018. The event is being organized by EDS, Department of Surgery, Medical academy and the Animal Research Centre, Veterinary Academy, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences under auspices of United European Gastroenterology.

The goal of the EDS Surgical Skills Course (SSC) is to provide surgical residents and young practicing surgeons an opportunity to learn/improve the fundamental skills of conventional and laparoscopic surgery, minimally invasive, ultrasound guided procedures that are keystone in management of critical ill GI patients including management of sepsis.

The program of the course was meticulously revised, taking into account the feedback from the participants of the 1st and the 2nd EDS SSC – the trainees as well as the trainers. This resulted in expanding and elaborating exercises that will improve your surgical skills in open and laparoscopic approach, vascular interventions. In addition you will obtain some experience in ultrasound guided interventions such as US guided access of biliary ducts and RUSH (Rapid Ultrasound in Shock and Hypotension). The course will be held over two days with a series of introductory lectures, lectures on sepsis and nutrition issues, demonstrations and extensive hands on sessions.

The faculty is drawn from a specially selected group of local and international surgeons and emergency medicine doctors, each with a wide range of knowledge and experience in teaching.

Kaunas city with its historical and cultural heritage is recognized as an exciting tourist destination. 

Furthermore, EDS travel grants will be awarded to the international participants of the EDS Surgical Skills Course.
